WHEN WILL WE LISTEN

Today has marked a very sad day in the state of virginia as a major killing spree has taken place. All young people, 32 of them gunned down by a raging gunman.

I thought of the students and the trauma many of them are facing today, in the midst of such an unexplainable act of extreme violence. Parents and family were jamming the highways to get to the school to see if their child was a victim or not.
I can't imagine the fear they were facing wondering what was happening and whether their child was alive or dead.

My mind was reeling as thoughts of why this young man had done this. The sounds that were heard as the news played a video from one students phone were like that of a movie - although all was very real!!
As the police carried out the wounded students - I couldn't help but think of so many other incidents of extreme violence that have occured in so many schools over the last few years.
You never expect some one walking into your school to kill.
Yet all is very real!!

My heart goes out to all the students and the families of those who have been lost in this brutal attack.

This brings me to the fact that we need to look very seriously at why young people are killing young people, and just going crazy in this day and age!

The standard in our countries on what is shown in the media is sooo very low. Tons of Movies, video games, tv, music lyrics, and other sources, all promote killing.
The average young person has seen thousands and thousands of acts of violence and murder through the media.

One general said and I quote" The video and computor games of today are making killers out of our young people - they are more violent than the training programs we give to our soldiers to train for the battlefeild".

That is scary guys!! We are allowing this violent culture to shape the minds of our generation! When will we step in and say NO MORE!!!
I don't know why this guy did what he did today - and I'm sure we will get the report. But I can say a generation should not be taken out by it's own!!! There is a MAJOR emergency to see that change comes to North America - WHEN WILL WE WAKE UP!!!
HOW Many More must die before the Nation takes a stand!!!

Something is stirring in the hearts of the people - we all know it's time to Stop this influence of murder through the media!!!
We need to write, phone , email the stations the makers, producers, the Mps.
How many more will we allow to have their minds filled with violence?? HOW MANY WILL WE ALLOW TO DIE???
What is our place in all this.......when you see someone in need are we to turn a blind eye.........This Generation is in need right now!!!!
It is in need of strong voices - It's time to stop - It's time to listen -It's time to take a stand for the minds and lives of this Generation!!!

WE HAVE TO START SOMEWHERE

I was watching the reports today from the roommates of the young 23yr old shooter. He was quiet and seemed to have strange behavior they said.
He was known as having incidents with the police and was even brought to a councilor for his threats of suicide.
Obviously, this young man had major problems. Anyone talking of taking their life is in a major depression. The students also reported his obsessions that seemed to be delusional. This is a serious state of illness. In NO way does this justify or excuse the demented behaviour and sickening crime. There are many today dealing with depression and serious problems that do NOT even think of doing something like this - but, we need to take this into serious consideration.

Not really knowing what was going on in this young man - I have to say that there are sooo many factors that could be involved here.
I have seen people in my life time soo deluded to reality. I have experienced the pain of people close to me taking their own lives.
We need to ask ourselves the question - could someone be so deluded it could drive them to this type of crime.
We have all heard the stories after the crime has been done - where do we start before it's been done?
Only someone who has experienced this kind of delusion could tell us of the darkness that it is en-veloped in.
Many will want to know why and many will not. The truth remains is that somehow we need to take some sort of responsibility in all this.
How? Why?? Because there are lives at stake!
We must start somewhere, whatever we can do to invoke change is of high priority!
We know that our culture has a major spiritual problem. What if this shooter had accepted Christ - what if more drastic mesures were taken as for his state and strange behavior - what if our culture was not so driven by violence and revenge???
What if the moral standard was raised and the lies of many were not available for all to be influenced by???
What if we realized that there are people walking around sick in need of help and don't even know it!
Could we care too much?? Could we stand up and be a voice too much??
Could we be a good influence on the Generation too much??
Could we become more aware too much??
All this said how many more lives are we willing to see lost before we see a shift in our culture??
I'm sure if there was someone close to this guy they would have seen the changes - the strangeness - the weird behavior - possibly something could have been done to alter this event. Something like this you never see coming. We need to know what to do when we see strange behaviour. We need to become tuned in to the seriousness of depression and other illnesses and how to see the signs and triggers of this kind of horrific act!

To say all of this, whatever we can do for the future generations, whatever it may be to see something like this never happen again - is very important!
I was saying to the young people that you never know what events in history will be altered by someone surrendering their lives to Christ. The very person who is converted by the power of the cross could have been the next murderer - how do we know?? We don't - that's why we need to be labourors in the feilds of life - we can make the difference!

All that said - there is no return for the victims - no son or daughter for the grieving families. That is the reason we need to act. So many young people innocently killed.
Lives taken from them. Many students and teachers were violently murdered yesterday - the worst killing in U.S. history.
Many people traumatized - lives scarred and changed forever.
It makes you feel helpless - only by God's grace can you come through something like this.
I am no expert on any of this, but I am sure of one thing - God has called us to be bearers of light. We must bring it into the darkness, and with His guidance we can make a difference in this world!
My prayers go out to all the grieving families, students and staff of Virginia Tech.

AS THE DETAILS UNFOLD

As the news reveals more about this horrible day in American History, we hear and see the warning signs that were very evident in the killers life.
His teacher saw the behaviour and the essays he was writing that were very disturbing. He was a very sick young man. It leads me to think of how disturbed he was. I think of the fact that he was hospitilized for mental illness in 2005 and was put on medication. We don't hear of the details of his family knowing any of this or anyone checking in on this guy over the last couple of years. Just his teacher who was trying to help him.

In today's society it is a very uncommon thing for people to be aware of. Mental illness is a physical problem that causes great havoc on the mind. I don't understand why this young man's family were not informed of this. When people start to get ill no one expects it. They don't know how to deal with it because they have no knowledge about this. It is also a very tricky thing to deal with. Someone can be perfectly normal and then start to exemplify strange behavior.

Many people don't understand that young people can begin to show signs of depression and even delusion because they are very sick.
These people cannot funtion in the real world without help.
I can't help to wonder why there is such a lack in awareness especially in our society today.
It's very important that we understand this so we can help.
There is great controversy in our society about this.
So many are given medication for their symptoms but many people that are this ill do not stay on their medication without support. Or it is not the right medication. It may even increase symptoms.

This is a very closed topic for many but if people understood the causes of this many could be helped.
I know many dr.s and have seen and heard many testimonies of people who had "lost it" only to be treated by the right Dr. to "get it back".
If you think of all the pressures today in the culture, the horrible diets of our youth - and the lack of awareness of how to deal with people that are very sick - we have alot of research to do.

I can say this for sure that the whole person needs to be treated in this state. It has been proven that the lack of certain vitamins can cause delusional behaviour in a person. It has also been proven that if the body is not balanced with the proper amount of what's called good bacteria then a person can become very ill and suffer with severe depression.

I feel that many people are more apt to try to council someone out of this behaviour, instead of knowing the true root of WHY there is this behaviour - this illness masks itself in emotional turmoil.
This is where I can say that we as the church need to understand this kind of illness so we can help and help the right way.

I have seen people try to talk to or fall into the person's world by trying to remove them from circumstances or people in their lives. But when someone is extremely delusional or manic (as this is labeled) - they need treatment right away and the right treatment!!! And the right Kind of Support!!! This is a very difficult subject because of lack of knowledge. Also very hard to figure out if the people closest to this person are unavailable to see any changes. Also, very hard for a person to realize they are that far gone and need some kind of help.

There is so much for us to learn as a society - stay tuned for more on this subject.
