Definition of Disciple

Disciple means ”One who receives instruction from another; a scholar; a learner; especially, a follower who has learned to believe in the truth of the doctrine of his teacher; an adherent in doctrine; as, the disciples of our Savior; One who is disciplined, devoted, committed, and faithful to another; An adherent of one’s teachings and instruction.

Qualifications for Being His Disciple

Matthew 16:24-26 Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me. "For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it; but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?

The Great Commission - Making Disciples

Bearing fruit means reproducing

Matthew 28:18-20 Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in[a] the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.

Luke 9:1-6 When Jesus had called the Twelve together, he gave them power and authority to drive out all demons and to cure diseases, 2and he sent them out to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick…. 6So they set out and went from village to village, preaching the gospel and healing people everywhere.

Matthew 10:6-8 …As you go, preach this message: 'The kingdom of heaven is near.' Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy,[a]drive out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.

Fulfilling the Great Commission - How Will They Know Unless We Tell Them?

Romans 10:13-15 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

This Should Now Become Our Purpose On Earth – It is our Obligation if We Love God.

1 Corinthians 9:16-19 Yet when I preach the gospel, I cannot boast, for I am compelled to preach. Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel! If I preach voluntarily, I have a reward; if not voluntarily, I am simply discharging the trust committed to me. What then is my reward? Just this: that in preaching the gospel I may offer it free of charge, and so not make use of my rights in preaching it. Though I am free and belong to no man, I make myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible.

Mark 8:38 If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his Father's glory with the holy angels."

What Should We Preach?

Jesus - Mark 1:15 "The time has come," he said. "The kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news!"

John The Baptist - Acts 19:4 "John's baptism was a baptism of repentance. He told the people to believe in the one coming after him, that is, in Jesus."

Paul - Acts 26:20 Paul said… “I preached that they should repent and turn to God and prove their repentance by their deeds.”

Disciples - Mark 16:20 And they went out and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them, and confirmed the word by the signs that followed.] Mark 6:12 They went out and preached that men should repent.
