CHRISTIANITY OR NOT

Hey! It's been a while since I've entered anything in this blog - I haven't really had the time! As I'm writing this I am working on a big event coming up:)Life can be very busy when you realize there is such a great need out there!

Being in the streets with the homeless really makes you realize that everyday you have is a gift from God. We lost Bill to a heart attack a few months ago. He was a really awesome man with very unfortunate circumstances in his life.
We saw him every month for the last 5yrs this summer. He was homeless and he died in the shelter a homeless man. He spoke of his daughter and her children every conversation we had.
The amazing thing was that we were so fortumate to have been able to be the people he trusted enough to talk to.

When we didn't see him one night I knew there was something wrong.
I asked where he was - and was told he was in his room.
The next time I didn't see him I knew for sure there was a problem. One guy told me he was upstairs and was not doing well.
At that point - he had died but the guys didn't want to tell me.
When I went back I spoke to another man that night asking him about Bill -then he told me he had died.
It was the srangest night out on the streets. I know the facts on the streets that people are dying all the time.
That same person you see on the streets today could be gone tomorrow.
It's the same with every day life, except the homeless person's chances of surviving are not the same as the average person.

It is so important that we be someone who cares about people who need help.
It's great to care -but what about doing something. With Bill we were grateful to be able to bring him those brief moments of hope and dignity. His life was different those nights he waited for us to show up.
He would tell us we were early if we went out one night different form the norm:) It really shows you how important it is to do something!

When I first became a Christian my life changed so radically! I used to hate people - all of a sudden I cared about them and their eternity. I cared about the homeless the prisoner the single mom or dad the youth in crisis the the City the nation!
I needed to dO something and the drive inside of me to dO something about it just became stronger as I became more aware of the needs!
In myself there was NO way I would ever care like I do now!
The Bible says you become a new creation when you surrender your life to Christ.
It's his Spirit in me that cares and edged me on to do the things I need to do.

I can't imagine just hangin out planning my self centered life when so many are in need on the streets and in their lives. So many will die today without dignity and without Christ.
As a Christian I know I could never do it all - there is sooooooo much to do!!

That is why God equips everyone with talents and gifts that they can use to reach out. That is why when we are Christians we care so much and NEED to DO something!!
It's really so easy -because there is so much need! It's so easy because we all have so much - and in North America we are so messed up.
Don't get me wrong we are a Blessed nation -Canada is awesome!
But that's why we get so distorted in our thinking. We take so much for granted everyday.
It gets me so frustrated that so much more could be getting done - but people choose to be so self centered.
It is not cool! Many people could be getting help with so much - the poverty problem could be solved - the nation could be changed!

Last time I read the bible on this I beleive Satan was thrown out of heaven for having one thought of being greater than God.
Why do we think that we know so much better what needs to be done in our lives, than God does.

What makes us think that as Christians that we can even think that we are Christian - when we are so self - centered in life.
Makes you think.
Christian or not! It's really important to test yourself on this.
Could mean your eternity!
